Healthy Hips and Hearts

The Healthy Hips and Hearts (HHH) programme, previously run by the Primary Care Trust, was taken over by Sport Trafford in April 2011.

The sessions involve chair based exercise and there are currently 22 sessions in Trafford which operate under the HHH banner. The sessions are led by 25 trained active volunteers.

On average 400 people attend HHH sessions each week which equates to 1 years physical activity costing £22.50 per head.

One of the instructors who delivers 3 sessions in residential homes has said “I love instructing the sessions. I live in one of the homes myself and it gives me social status where I live. I also get to go to 2 other homes and meet new people there. If I didn’t do this then I wouldn’t be able to meet these people. It means I also do the exercises 3 times a week which keeps me fit and healthy”

One of the participants of the Larkhill Community Centre said

“Our instructors are wonderful. They do it each week and have been doing it for over ten years now! I have only been coming for 3 years but I love every minute. It keeps me active and I always feel better for doing them. We also organise regular social activities like walking and lunch which is a nice day out.
