The Secret to Lower Scores

Jack Nicklaus claimed when he was playing the best golf of his career, he would only hit the ball out of the middle of the club 2-3 times.

So what was happening on the other shots?

Well his miss-hits were virtually as good as the perfect shots. Remember consistency is about the level of tolerance to those good and bad shots.

"Setting up is 90% of good shot making, I think it is the single, most important manoeuvre in golf ... precise shot making is

50% mental picture

40% set up

10% swing......"

"I never hit a shot even in practice, without having a very sharp, in-focus picture of it in my head. It's like a colour movie. First I see the ball where I want to finish, nice and white sitting up high on the bright green grass. Then the scene quickly changes and I see the ball going there: its path, trajectory and shape even its behaviour on landing. Then there's a sort of fade out and the next scene shows me making the kind of swing that will turn the previous images into reality only at the end of this short, private, Hollywood spectacular do I select a club and step up to the ball"
