Trafford Leisure look to support Emmerdale Star bereavement charity, through fitness & fundraising.

Trafford Leisure have chosen to support Manchester bereavement charity once upon a smile with a calendar of fun fundraising activities.

Kicking off in March with their Eggcellent Easter egg appeal where they are urging gym bunnies to turn into the real Easter bunny by buying an extra Easter egg and dropping it off at their local Trafford leisure centre. It will then be donated to a child that has lost a parent or sibling, making Easter that little bit more special for them.

Then in April all 7 of the Trafford leisure centres will take on the Smile mile challenge. Competing against each other to raise the most money and hit the 100-mile mark first by cycling, rowing, walking, running and swimming based in each centre. This epic team challenge will take place from Monday 24th - Friday 28th April and they are inviting all customers to do there bit by signing up to do 1mile or more.

Craig Lomas, General Manager at Sale Leisure Centre said, “We support once upon a smile because they are a small local charity doing outstanding work and we have witnessed the difference they make to peoples’ lives. The charity often raises funds by helping people to be more active, fit and healthy by encouraging people to take part in charity football matches, Smile mile and many more activity based events. We believe that we are the perfect fit! Once upon a smile have enabled us to understand that a meaningful chocolate moment is more than taste, it’s about sharing Easter happiness and bringing joy for families.”

The money raised from the smile mile will make a huge difference to families suffering the loss of a parent or child. Once upon a smile was co-founded by Daniel Jillings and Emmerdale actor Danny Miller. Once upon a smile is the only bereavement charity in the UK to offer a variety of support to families through such a difficult time. Based in Trafford park, once upon a smile run bereavement support groups across Greater Manchester including Trafford, Stockport and Wigan. These groups are open to all local families, they also offer financial support to families struggling to cope after the loss of a loved one.

Daniel Jillings and Danny Miller, co-founder of Once Upon a Smile, said: “We’re very honoured to be chosen by Trafford Leisure as their charity partner. For us as a local charity to partner up with such a passionate local company who are all about making a difference to people’s lives is very important to us. We are looking forward to all the new and exciting fundraising ideas and events that they have coming up over the next 12months and we can’t wait to get involved.
